What to Expect

On the water, every day is different. This especially holds true when targeting Bluefin. Some trips we have multiple bites, and some days can prove to be difficult in getting a bite. Regardless, we pride ourselves in giving our utmost effort to ensure we have the best chance for success every trip. Keep in mind that targeting Bluefin is similar to hunting and we are working towards the goal of getting one chance. Tuna trips range from 8-10 hours on the water. However, we want to catch one just as bad if not more than you and will stay out longer if necessary.

We typically depart from Scituate Harbor at 3:30 in the morning. However, we can leave earlier or later depending on tides, weather, and fish behavior trends. The average time for travel is about 50 minutes from the dock to the majority of our fishing locations. We primarily anchor in a desired location where live bait is plentiful. We then set out baits at different depths to increase our chances of a bite while constantly checking and adjusting the spread to give the best presentation to the fish.

Tunas we catch range anywhere from 100 to 1000 pounds. Anything under 73” we keep for you to bring home and any tuna over 73” must be sold commercially by federal law.

Striped Bass Trips

Massachusetts Bay is regarded as one of the Striped Bass capitols of the world. Striper Season typically begins in May and continues through September (June/July are historically the best months).

Fishing for striped bass is primarily based on tidal patterns which directly effects feeding habits. Similar to Bluefin Tuna, no two days are the same. We constantly work to pattern Striped Bass behavior based on tides, bait concentrations, and water temperature. Most trips consist of catching live bait such as Mackerel or Pogies. Depending on the time of year we either target open water where migratory schools are ambushing bait, or fishing rocky inshore structures using live bait.

Versatility is a key factor to a success when targeting Striped Bass, more often than not we catch Stripers utilized methods such as trolling, pitching live baits, or casting artificial lures on light tackle gear.
